Postpartum

The postpartum period is one of the most transformative stages of a woman's life. While much of the focus is placed on pregnancy and birth, recovery after delivery is just as important. Contrary to what we’re often told, there is no such thing as "bouncing back." Postpartum is about adapting, growing, and thriving in the body that carried you into motherhood.

As pregnancy hormones begin to shift and relaxin levels gradually leave the body, your joints and soft tissues begin adjusting to a new normal. At the same time, the demands of caring for a baby can place significant stress on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, and pelvis. Many mothers experience discomfort from feeding, carrying, lifting, and spending hours in positions their bodies weren’t previously accustomed to.

At Align Chiropractic, we help support recovery by improving movement, restoring balance, and addressing areas of stress. Motherhood is not a single chapter—it's a lifelong role that continually asks more of your body. Our goal is to help you build strength, resilience, and confidence for the years ahead.

FAQs

When can I begin chiropractic care after giving birth?

1

Come when you're ready! We fully support the lying-in phase and want you to enjoy the newborn bubble. We encourage mothers to be evaluated sooner rather than later, as relaxin can remain in the body for several months postpartum. This is important because your body is transitioning from a state of increased flexibility and mobility back toward stability, making it an ideal time to restore balance, support healthy movement patterns, and promote recovery.

Can I receive chiropractic care if I had a c-section?

2

Absolutely. Chiropractic care can be safely modified to accommodate your comfort and stage of healing. Many postpartum adjustments can be performed seated or lying on your back, allowing us to work around your incision site during the early stages of recovery. Once you have been cleared by your OB and your incision has healed appropriately, additional positioning options may become available. Care is always tailored to your individual needs and recovery timeline.

What conditions do you commonly help with during the postpartum period?

3

We commonly work with mothers experiencing neck and shoulder tension, low back pain, pelvic discomfort, hip pain, headaches, sciatica, rib pain, wrist pain, and postural strain associated with feeding, carrying, and caring for a growing baby. We also support women who simply want to move better, return to exercise, and feel stronger as their bodies recover from pregnancy and birth.
